What we love about Nubians
and what you will love about them too.
There is something alien yet familiar about Nubians. The long ears make them more like a dog, but their bodies resemble a deer. They are like the “dogs” of another world.
We got three Nubians in 2021 and fell in love with these giant, grass eating puppies. They have BIG, loving personalities and are a very fun animal to raise. Flora and Frances were pregnant and kidded later that summer. Reba was still a growing yearling we decided to bring home with the other two girls because the more the merrier! As their doe kids grew up, we felt the pressure to add our first Nubian bucks.
In 2022, we decided to carefully select our new boys. I fell in love with the blue roan color pattern and found State Line’s Vesper. I immediately wanted a buck version of her as our herd sire. So far, he is everything we wanted! In fact, the more I learn about his relatives, the more smitten I am. Indigo is quite related to the Nubian buck WINGWOOD FARM ARA D’ARTAGNAN who sold at the ADGA Spotlight sale in 2023 for $10,000. He has many Elite relatives and fantastic genetic potential for my herd. I also searched for a buck to add moonspots to our herd and found Terrell Creek has genetics from Windsong Farm. I had been wanting a Windsong Nubian, so things really worked out beautifully! We also added a doe from each farm and have been surprised how beautifully Peaches and Nebula have grown and warmed our hearts with their doe eyes.
We look forward to meeting you and discussing goats. Thanks for your interest in my herd!
higher butterfat
Nubians have an average butterfat of 4.5% or higher, which is more than other dairy breeds except Nigerian Dwarf goats.
For reference, most dairy cows have a butterfat of 3%. Although guernsey cows and Jersey cows can average nearly 5%.
production
A decent Nubian makes over a gallon a day. Frances peaked at 12.9 lbs inbetween milk tests in 2023. Let's see how the girls do in 2024!
That's a lot of milk for soap and cheese! Best of all, the kids look great, too!
personality
- Nubians are know to be vocal and make hilarious noises.
- Despite their size, Nubians love to hop and use flip their ears around making for some funny pictures. Something about Nubians makes those pictures pretty funny!
- Nubians can be bossy and enjoy being treated like princesses. It is easier to try to work with them and their quirks rather than against them.
