Frances is the boss. Every goat knows she is the queen. She was a very good first time freshener producer and a great mother. She is very demanding for attention and backrubs. She will eat almost anything you offer, including dewormers and mineral gels. Oranges and banana peels are a favorite! I skipped breeding her for 2022 kids. She surprised me with a much more productive udder, easy to milk teats, and a great attitude about milking time in 2023. She peaked unofficially at 12.9 lbs a day inbetween milk tests (9.3 lbs officially). Her official normal on test was 9 lbs a day before I started drying her off. I learned a lot my first year of milk testing and will not leave kids on my does for milk test days! It threw off her end of year results up to 550 lbs a milk those first 8 weeks she had her bucklings nursing. 2024 milk year here we go!
Frances is an American Nubian. She scored GVVA 82 her second freshening at 4 years old. I was a little surprised her udder got an A and not a V. I am very optimistic she will score much higher on a future linear appraisal next lactation or two.

2021: About 3/4 gallon in a day when milked 2x a day with two kids nursing. Then, she milked about 1/2 gallon 1x a day with 2 kids nursing.

Clip her to a fence, put some feed in a cup, and milk her. That’s as easy as it is to get milk to feed bottle baby goats. Flora is a very easy milker. She prefers to be hand-milked, but with teats that flow so easily, it only takes a minute or two. She is learning to stand still for the milking machine, though. Flora gets very jealous of any goat getting milked and lets the barnyard hear her opinions about it. She is a nice goat to have around the farm. We love all her friendly, easy going girls. Her milk production this year really surprised us in a great way!
Flora is a Purebred Nubian. Flora appraised GVGG 83 her third freshening at 4 years old.

Reba is goofy. She drinks out of the milking room sink. She has to have a ritual to get up on the tall and scary metal stand, circling in a certain direction and with her head in a bucket full of feed, but has no issues with our small wooden stand. Honestly, she is a very easy milker, especially for a first time freshener. She happily kidsits Flora’s girls. She seems to be a natural babysitter. She has a beautifully attached udder. Her father is a champion buck, and I believe she will earn a milk star when the time comes. She had a nice butterfat average this lactation over 6%.
Reba is a Purebred Nubian. Reba appraised AVGA 77 at 3 years old her second freshening.

Aster is a goat with a lot of promise! While she is shy, she has her circle of deeply trusted humans. She is eager to please with desire to understand what we want and deep sensitivity like a loyal, loving dog. I love her deep, rich red brown and coat and expressive eyes. She is very dairy with her levelness and smooth body. I expect great things from her! She has a fantastic udder arch and nice teats for milking I expect will continue to develop. She did battle mastitis in 2023 after kidding a single buckling left one teat more vulnerable to infection. She is recovering well. At peak production, her good side milked a full gallon a day. Aster had a lovely butterfat average this lactation over 6%.
Aster is an American Nubian. Aster appraised VAGG 82 her first freshening (recovering from mastitis) at 2 years old.

Freya is a sweet girl. She quickly learned “shake” and gives either hoof for armpit scratches. I love her long Nubian ears. I aim to improve Freya’s conformation in her kids by breeding to a quality buck to see what comes about. She has a nice first freshener udder in 2023. I like her udder arch, medial, and foreudder. Her teats also milk easily. I am hoping she has more capacity her second freshening.
